Coseismic Deformation and Speculative Seismogenic Fault of the 2017 MS 6.6 Jinghe Earthquake, China, Derived From Sentinel-1 Data

A M S 6.6 earthquake struck Jinghe County in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Region on August 9, 2017. The occurred near the eastern part Kusongmuxieke Piedmont Fault (KPF) southwest Junggar Basin. Using two pairs coseismic SAR image data from ascending and descending tracks Sentinel-1 (European Space Agency), we processed interferograms to obtain deformation field. We calculate fault slip distribution based elastic half-space rectangular dislocation model with available location, geometry seismic data. results show that field has typical characteristics thrust faulting. uplift is about 28 km long 20 wide. maximum displacements InSAR line-of-sight are 49 68 mm, respectively. main concentrated at depth 10–20 km. inverted moment equivalent a magnitude W 6.3. This result very similar seismological inversion. area aftershocks both west side mainshock. They mutually confirm unilateral rupture. According stress triggering theory, within 1 month after mainshock layer 10–14 deep may have been triggered by mainshock, transferred increases risk section KPF fault.
